ISO 17025

ISO 17025 Laboratory Accreditation

As with ISO 9001, ISO 17025 is an internationally recognised standard that has been designed to meet the needs of the scientific community. The standard builds upon the requirements of ISO 9001 and is a blueprint for the design and maintenance of a Management System that is applicable to all testing or calibration laboratories.

ISO 9001 is a certification process whilst ISO 17025 is an accreditation process. A laboratory that is accredited to ISO 17025 means that its management system has been successfully tested against the requirements of ISO 17025 and shown to be in compliance, where it differs from ISO9001 is that once accredited to ISO 17025 the laboratory can certify the work it provides its customers.

Some industries require their laboratories to be ISO 17025 accredited and in other cases being ISO 17025 accredited may be used as a good marketing tool informing your prospective customers that your company works to an internationally recognised standard of quality that is externally verified on an annual basis.
